Alice Holdsworth is an important member of our team overseeing compliance as the Network Compliance Manager. We sat down with Alice to find out more about her time at Pall-Ex and how she ensures a high level of service across the UK and Europe.
What is your role at Pall-Ex?
In a nutshell, I work closely with the Network to set and measure performance targets, to ensure that Pall-Ex’s high standards are met. I also support any training needs that depots’ may have and am an escalation point for any day to day queries. I also ensure the network members maintain our ISO accreditations through annual audits.
How long have you been working with Pall-Ex?
I have been in my current role for just over 2.5 years. However, I have been working with Pall-Ex since 2016.
When not at work, how do you unwind?
Having a young family means our weekends are usually pretty busy but I always try and make time to slow down and enjoy it and take it all in, whether it is with a glass of wine and BBQ in the garden, or a dog walk together wrapped up warm. I am currently in my third trimester of pregnancy but normally, I do pride myself on my homemade espresso martinis which always go down well on a Saturday night!
What does a great day at work look like for you?
In logistics, no day is ever the same which is an aspect I have always enjoyed since joining the sector thirteen years ago. I like to problem-solve and am quite methodical so I enjoy the list of queries and tasks reducing as the day goes by.
Obviously, it doesn’t always go like that, but I do always enjoy being able to help our members whether it is in achieving their targets or answering any ad hoc queries they may have.
What’s the best thing about being part of Team Pall-Ex?
The answer is in the name; Team. I have never worked anywhere that has such a strong sense of comradery, from not just the employees but also the wider network and I am really proud to be a part of Team Pall-Ex.
What is the most exotic delivery destination you’ve seen pallets shipped to?
I’ve seen a pallet with the end address being a suite at the Burj al Arab in Dubai which is one of the most expensive hotels in the world.
What’s the most unusual item you’ve seen on a pallet?
I once saw a life-size paper mache tiger that scared the life out of me at first glance!
What’s your go-to road trip snack/playlist?
I do love an M&S Yum Yum and of course, a Costa Coffee Drive-Thru is essential when working on the road. The playlist always depends on my mood but I like to make the most of being in the car on my own and have House Music or 00’s RnB classics blaring.
What trucker handle (nickname) best describes you?
My colleagues are always making fun of my sense of direction (or lack of) and driving technique (again, or lack of) so I would have to say; Miss Daisy.
What is the most scenic route to travel on?
I drive to the South-West of France with my family a couple of times a year and the countryside there can be beautiful. I love taking all in all the different surroundings!
Which country, that you can deliver to, would be number one on your holiday hit list?
Italy, Italy, Italy. It is my dream to do a tour of the whole country one day.
Given your experience, what has been one of the most enjoyable/successful campaigns or initiatives to work on at Pall-Ex?
I think it must be the development of the Compliance Department. When I started as a Compliance Manager with Pall-Ex the department was relatively new, there were only two of us within the department. Fast forward almost three years now and there are five Compliance Managers and four Compliance Coordinators whose objectives are clear but always evolving and going from strength to strength.
