European palletised freight specialist Pall-Ex has sponsored this year’s British Citizen Awards, which champions extraordinary people who give selflessly to help others in their communities.
The Awards, which were set up in January 2015, were designed to celebrate people across the country who have tirelessly supported their local area – but perhaps without the fanfare or recognition they deserve.
This year’s winners comprised 34 individuals, who were commended at the Award Ceremony at the Palace of Westminster on 7 July. They included Irene Calcutt, a stalwart fundraiser for disability charities in her local area; Richard Field, creator of an award-winning village website for his community; and Michael Bates, a volunteer who helps improve quality of life for elderly neighbours and friends through resident events and groups.
Hilary Devey CBE is founder of Pall-Ex and patron of the Awards. She said: “This year, Pall-Ex is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and so as part of that we’re finding new ways to ‘Make a Difference’. As such, it was a natural fit for us to support an initiative that recognises the outstanding legacy people leave to their local communities.
“All of the nominees should be incredibly proud of themselves. Just like the supply chain in which Pall-Ex operates, our society relies on the hard work, dedication and commitment from individuals working together to create something special.
“We are very lucky to have individuals like Irene, Richard and Michael going out of their way to support each other.”
The formal presentation was hosted by The Lord Dholakia, and compèred by TV personality Fiona Phillips.
Mike Faulkner, Founder of The BCA, said: “We’re delighted to have Pall-Ex on board to support us in highlighting the extraordinary efforts of everyday people in the UK. They are invaluable partners that have helped make the British Citizen Awards possible.
“After being inundated with nominations this year, we’re urging people to beat the rush and send in their nominations for the January 2017 British Citizen Awards. The award is presented bi-annually at the Palace of Westminster with a prestigious ceremony hosted by Lord Dholokia, Deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords.”
