Mark Steel: Croft preview

Pall-Ex’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Mark Steel, travels to Croft Circuit in Yorkshire this weekend, as he hopes to build on his strong recent performances in the Volkswagen Racing Cup.

Mark, in his Staples supported MK7 Volkswagen Golf, currently sits in 11th position in the championship, having placed in 11th and 10th last time out at his home circuit, Donington Park.

Croft Circuit sits just below Darlington, in the heart of the North Yorkshire countryside.

A former World War Two airfield, used by Wellington and Lancaster bombers, Croft is a flowing circuit, punctuated by long straights and fast corners.

Last year, the Volkswagen Racing Cup did not visit Croft, so the track will be a new challenge to many competitors, including the Pall-Ex man.

Looking ahead to the weekend comments: “I’m excited to visit Croft for the first time.

It’s a fast circuit with some scary corners, so I will have to be precise and not overstep the limit.”

Mark is eyeing two Top 10 finishes this weekend and has been studying the track to ensure he has the best possible chance when he takes to the circuit for qualifying on Saturday.

Talking about his chances this weekend, Mark explains: “This is a new track for a lot of the guys racing, so in a sense, it makes it a more even playing field, as we are all having to learn the track.

Studying the circuit and looking at lap data has really helped me to see where I can shave time off.

This should mean I can put in a good qualifying performance which will then set us up nicely for both races.

I really want to cement my place as a Top 10 runner and I think this could be the weekend to do just that!”

Qualifying takes place at 10:45 AM on Saturday with Race One later that afternoon at 15:15 PM.

Race Two takes place at 14:20 PM on Sunday.

You can watch all the action by tuning into the Volkswagen Racing Cup YouTube channel for a live stream of both races.
